Return To Forever Live in New York City 1974 with Bill Connors

Here is a yet another rare live recording of Return To Forever with Bill Connors in New York City from 1974. Sorry, but I have no idea of the venue or the exact date. It was sent to me as is many years ago.

This recording is okay overall with some isolated quirkiness. It was a bit muddy. The guy doing the mic'ing or sound levels did not properly handle Chick's quieter keyboards in some sections. Bill was playing an acoustic guitar for awhile which was barely audible. I did my best to correct all that --  but it allowed some artifacts to appear. Any more attempts at boosting volume levels created distortion -- so I left them at lower levels with a slight boost and some EQ adjustments. Alas, such is the bane of live recordings. It does offer RTF in the raw with plenty of stretching. I did some overall EQ work and increased the overall volume levels.

In an old 2002 email from Bill Connors' brother Rick, he states:

"Bill was always good at things. Whatever he did, he was a perfectionist ... he liked doing things by himself. Then he discovered guitar when he was 14, and for the next 20 years he never stopped playing. He taught himself in his bedroom, listening to Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bo Diddley, etc. Later he got into Clapton, then eventually jazz. I believe that he didn't really learn to read music until he was with Chick Corea. I grew up hearing Bill's guitar from his room, where he would be constantly practicing riffs until 2 or 3 in the morning. He practiced all the time."

It's nice to have this tidbit of background info on one of jazz rock fusion's very finest guitarists.
